A tutor at a Houston elementary school is making sure that kids get nourishing lunches, and are not embarrassed when they go to the cafeteria.
Kenny Tompson is a mentor and tutor at Valley Oaks Elementary School. He was moved when he heard about stories last week about Utah school kids whose lunches were taken away because their accounts weren't paid up.
So Kenny did some research and found that 60 kids at his school were getting cold cheese sandwiches or peanut butter and jelly instead of full trays of food because their parents could not afford the 40-cents a day it cost to keep their accounts current.
As a result, Kenny spent 465 dollars of his own money to pay off the overdue accounts. Kenny went on to say that it was the best money he ever spent.
