O'Hara High School Student With Speacial Needs Inspires Wrestling Teammates

O'Hara High School, out on the east side of the city, is one of the few private schools nationwide to integrate kids with special needs into their mainstream curriculum. The program, they call it “The Fire” program, has been receiving get reviews and been very successful for those with special needs.

For one student at O’Hara, this program has turned his life and the school completely upside down— his name is Brett.  He has already been crowned a homecoming king, he is also known as the school’s biggest cheerleader. Life changed for Brett last year after he had a blood flow issue within brain, leaving Brett to receive brain surgery.

The fact that Brett needed brain surgery did not stop him from his passion towards wrestling.  Following the surgery, Brett hit the mat just like the other students, practicing 2 hours a day, five times a week. Brett has not been in any matches yet, but once he gets the “all clear,” you better bet that Brett will be in the ring with a smile.

For everyone on the wrestling team, Brett has been a HUGE inspiration and reminder to smile.
