UPDATE: Richard Simmons Issues Statement After Hospitalization
By: Joe Hyer
Richard Simmons issued his first public statement in more than a year when he thanked his fans for their concern in a Facebook post.
"Hello to everyone who has shown concern for me and sent their good wishes. You will never know how much it means to me," he wrote in a Facebook post that was shared on Wednesday.
It is the first time Richard has made a statement since he phoned into Entertainment Tonight in March 2016.
Wednesday's Facebook post included a 2014 photo of Simmons.
"Aren’t you sick of hearing and reading about me?! LOL Well by now you know that I’m not “missing”, just a little under the weather. I’m sure I will be feeling good and back home in a couple of days," he wrote.
Richard Simmons was hospitalized on Monday (April 18) for “severe indigestion,” according to ABC News.
The news was confirmed by Richard’s representative, Michael Catalano.
"Richard Simmons was hospitalized on Monday at an undisclosed location in California. After a few days of battling severe indigestion and discomfort while eating, we agreed it was best for him to seek treatment,” Catalano told ABC News on Tuesday.
TMZ reports that the 68-year-old fitness guru did not require an ambulance. His "people" drove him to the hospital. Simmons's manager says that Richard is expected to make a full recovery.
It has been three years since Simmons was last seen in public, but earlier this month we learned that Simmons was working on a new line of merchandise. It is not clear, however, if Richard will be making public appearances to promote the new products.
